Irrigation System - Monday 8th May. - Contractors will be moving onto the course this week. Please be vigilant.
Martin Weaver & Adrian Evans (Course/Irrigation Committee)
WEEK 20 May 2017
This weeks’ update will be mainly informing members about the start of the irrigation works’ Work started Monday and has made good progress, completing a section from the 9th, behind the back of the 18th, down the 10th. 11th and up to the 17th green. The work has been completed with very little damage to the course and the neatness has been remarked on by many playing over the weekend. The joints are perhaps the most noticeable workings but once a section has been done the contractors go back and make good these areas and roll the trench to leave the course relatively unmarked. New pipework stock is expected Monday morning so work can continue across the 17th towards the 3rd & 14th greens . The plan is to try and inform members of where work is taking place as soon as I hear from the greenstaff on a daily basis via club website and social media feeds. In other news May will see mowing operations in full swing with the aim of reducing the height of cut of the greens; by the end of month, the greens should be at their summer height (4.5-5mm). Other tasks that complement this work involve the use of grooming and verti-cutting units to remove unwanted thatch and side shoot growths. The frequency of grooming is fortnightly, with verti-cutting monthly. Monday 15th May will also involve greens spraying so as always be mindful to wash your hands after play and avoid contact with mouth.
Work completed. Chris Breen report.
• Greens cut daily • Greens rolled Monday and Friday • Approaches cut Thursday • Tees cut Friday • Fairways cut Thursday • All crossovers strimmed and flymowed • Holes changed Monday Friday • Tees divoted Friday
Divot bags are back in use so please feel free to help yourself to them as you play the course (available on 1st & 10th tees) and as always a reminder to be vigilant on repairing pitchmarks !! yours and any others you may come across.
